The Vice Chairman of the Labour Committee of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Bukari says Ghanaians cannot be made to pay all these taxes imposed on them by government.

According to him, the Labour Committee of Parliament is going to intervene to sit both the Organized Labour and government down to look at the way forward as to how to manage the situation in order for all to cope with the tariffs and petroleum increases imposed on Ghanaians.

Organized labour is demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Energy Sector Levy Act which has resulted in up to 28 percent increase in fuel prices. The group is also demanding a reduction in the hike in prices of utilities.

Speaking to the issue on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Hon. Joseph Bukari revealed the Labour Committee of Parliament has succeeded in arranging a meeting with the Organized Labour and government to go to the negotiation table to come to a common term which will serve both interest.

“Our intention is that we want all of them to understand that what is supposed to be done today, we should do it with everybody agreeing and being on board. It is not easy for us to carry all these taxes that government imposes on us…,” he stated.

He reiterated that as a country, there should be a way forward as to how to manage this situation so that every Ghanaian can cope with the tariffs and then the petroleum increases that have been imposed.

He however averred that the Labour Committee of Parliament which is serving a mediatory role is making every effort to get the parties meet for a negotiation; adding “so that common sense will prevail”.
