Gabonese international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has responded to comments made by his competitors Andre Ayew and Yaya Toure after winning the 2015 African Football of the year award.

The Brussia Dortmond striker made history by becoming the first Gabonese to win the award after beating off competition from the two (Andre and Yaya).

The 26-year-old pulled out an incredible 146 votes from captains and National team coaches in Africa to become the best African player in the year 2015.

Ayew who finished third had questioned CAF’s decision to reward Aubameyang with the Footballer of the year accolade insisting he or Yaya Toure deserved it more.

Toure had raised similar issue after he also failed to win the award for a record fifth time.

Aubameyang says he was hurt by the comments made by his colleagues.

“I spoke with Ayew, I did not understand [his attitude]. It doesn’t matter,” he said.

“The Golden Ball [of Africa] is played on all season and my calendar year was not bad. It hurt me and that’s a shame.”

"The award is based on the whole year and not just the African Cup of Nations," added Aubameyang, who is currently the leading scorer in the Bundesliga with 18 goals.

The speedy attacker has been able to score 19 goals for Brussia Dortmond in the Bundesliga this season.
