James Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly known as Kabila, of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has called on the party delegates to vote for Ivor Greenstreet as flagbearer of the party.

Kabila appealed to the delegates to vote the former General Secretary Ivor Greenstreet due to his unflinching belief and support that he is a formidable force in Ghana's politics.

According to him, Ivor Greenstreet is the only person "angry" among the candidates vying for the flagbearer position in the CPP to effect changes in the party and the country at large.

"...he is the best among them…We want a person who can bring unity into the party. Our shortfall in the party when you read Professor Addai Mensah’s book that was recently launched; our major problem is that on daily basis, we cause divisions and conflicts…"

The Convention People's Party (CPP) will hold a national congress on Saturday January 30, 2016 to elect flagbearer for the party.

Contesting the position are the former Chairperson of the party Samia Nkrumah, Chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Committee Bright Akwetey, Joseph Agyapong and Ivor Greenstreet.

“There is only one in the party, among the contestants, who is so loyal to the party and to this nation like Ivor Kobina Greenstreet. He is straightforward. He is also hard working. Some people argue that he is in a wheel chair, it’s true. But I tell you the most visible party officer all these years on the grounds who our party members know is him. He visits you all the time, not because he wants to be the flagbearer. He has been the one visiting you.

“He is a man who is angry enough. The only man in the heat of Ghana who spoke to the face of the NDC during their Congress” to address the rot in the Mahama administration. “We need such a person.”

Profile

Mr Greenstreet is the son of two Professors from the University of Ghana, Legon, and is the third of their four children. He is a lawyer called to the Ghana Bar and the English Bar (Inner Temple) as well as a writer and publisher.

He contested as a parliamentary candidate in 1996 on the ticket of the People’s Convention Party but had to withdraw due to the Great Alliance at that time. In 2004, he contested as a parliamentary candidate for the CPP in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency and garnered 4,964 votes for the party (prior to that election the vote for CPP in that constituency had never exceeded 500). He was later elected as General Secretary in 2007 and again in 2011, being the only national officer to be re-elected for a second term.

He is one of the most visible party officers in the constituencies and the regions.
