Traders fined for selling on streets

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Adjei Frimpong has fined 11 traders the sum of GH2,400 for selling on the streets of Kumasi. The traders, who pleaded guilty to the charge of blocking the free flow of vehicular and pedestrian movement which is contrary to KMAs bye-laws, are Akosua Addae, Akua Achiaa, Linda Annor, Ama Abrafi and Agnes Mensah. The rest are Yaw Gyau, Maame Ama, Akosua Serwaah, Kinsley Osei, Esi Edwene and Ama Tiwaah. The court heard that on September 10, 2009, the KMA embarked on an intensive media education to warn the traders to stay clear from selling on the streets to allow for the free flow of vehicles and pedestrians movement. It was further heard that the KMA in its bid to bring sanity on the streets sent its task force to decongest the Metropolis. Recalcitrant traders had their wares seized; they were arrested and put before court. However, the court ordered for the release of their wares, on the grounds that it was their first time.
