Minister Urges Ashgold And Medeama To Make Ghana Proud

The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Vincent Oppong Asamoah has urged the two Ghanaian Clubs participating in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup to make Ghana proud.

AshantiGold and Medeama will be Ghana’s representatives in the Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.

He said though government is not in a position to support their participation due to lack of funds, the duo should excel in their campaign to attract corporate sponsorship.

In an interview with the GNA Sports, he said ‘‘they should go and make us proud. And I know once they start and they are performing, who wouldn’t want to be associated with good things? I know there are others waiting to see how they will fare and I know a lot of corporate institutions will come on board to support’’.

The Deputy Minster said Ashgold and Medeama have exhibited some level of professionalism, and that, he will support the two clubs if funds are made available.

“Personally, I think these two clubs need to be supported because they have shown some level of professionalism in management’’ he noted.

Ashantigold will lock horns with Algerian side MO Bejaia in the first round of the qualifiers next month at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium whilst the FA Cup Champions Medeama SC, who drew a bye in the preliminary stage of the competition, will face the winner of the match involving Ittihad of Libya and AS Sonidep of Niger in the 1/16th clash before the second leg in a fortnight.

Ashantigold are returning to the Champions league after a long break and hope to make an impact for Ghana to regain its previous two slots in the competition.
