Ohene Djan Stadium not sold Pelpuo

Accra, Sept. 15, GNA - Minister for Youth and Sports, Abdul Rashid Pelpuo has dismissed reports that the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra has been traded off to a private firm. Media reports are rife that the national stadium is owned by a private company, but Mr Pelpuo insists they are mere speculations. The Ministry of Youth and Sports is not aware of this development. Government is firmly in control of the Stadium, Pelpuo responded at the Meet the Press Series on Tuesday. The Minister reiterated that no individual or institution has formalized such concerns on the 40,000-capacity stadium renovated during the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.Nobody has approached me to buy it (stadium). If such contemplations existed in the past, the present is assured. Mr Pelpuo also announced that the Tennis court at the Ohene Djan Stadium will be restored back to its standards in the not to distant future. The Tennis court was razed down for the purpose of a car park during the January 20 to February 10, 2008 tournament The Minister explained the decision to restore court was motivated by the nations quest to host a Davis Cup Euro/Africa Zone II qualifier in January 2010.
