Mahama Hits The Ground Running

The presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Dr Edward Mahama, yesterday led the party top brass to begin a three-day tour of the Upper West Region.

It is also an exercise to begin his campaign for the November 7, 2016 polls.

Dr Mahama, who has hardly made any impression in four previous attempts at the presidency, is seeking to right the wrongs of the past as he champions PNC’s “New Beginning, New Deal, New Force” project.

That slogan, according to the party’s national youth organiser, Awudulai Issahaq, portrays the party’s intent to start afresh from a clean slate, salvage the public sector, revamp and/or inject enthusiasm into the nation’s ever-vibrant youth.

Dr Mahama was in Wa yesterday, with the tour scheduled to start officially today.

The tour, coming just about a month after their national elections in Wa, will double as a “Thank You Tour” for the presidential candidate to thank the people of his native region for their support in his election.

It is expected to run through all 11 constituencies of the region, in the hope to snatch at least one seat for the party.

Indeed, as the home region of the party’s founder, Dr Hilla Limann, Upper West has given the PNC about its best showing in national elections, with Dr Dani Baah once holding the Sissala East seat on the PNC’s ticket.

Lately, however, their failure in Upper West has coincided with the party’s national collapse, but according to Mr Issahaq, “this is truly a new beginning”.
