1965 Black Stars Nations Cup Winning Team Receive Donation of GHc310,000

The 1965 Black Stars Nations Cup winning team have received a final donation of GHC310, 000.00 from cooperate entities, stakeholders and individual personalities.

The amount is the total money received after the Despite Group of Companies embarked on a fundraising project for the group.

The donation which was done at the premises of the Despite Group of Companies on Wednesday was graced by members of the squad including Rev. Osei Kofi who received the donation on behalf of the team, Rev. Kofi Pare, John Naawu, Wilberforce Nfum and Dodoo Ankrah.

The money is however expected to be shared among 11 existing members of the 1965 Cup of Nations winning as well as families of the 10 other deceased members of the squad.

Last year marked exactly 50 years Ghana won her second Cup of Nations trophy in Tunisia.

As part of the Golden Jubilee celebration, the Despite Group of Companies took it upon themselves to organize a fundraising dinner and a football match to help raise funds for the neglected heroes.

The fundraising dinner which was held on December 3, 2015 at the Sunlodge Hotel in Accra saw several bigwig personalities including NPP Presidential aspirant Nana Akufo- Addo, Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, Mr.Prosper Appiah of Prolux electronics, founder of the Glorious Wave International Church Rev Kobby as well as several individual personalities contributing their quota to help by donating sums of monies to the ex-footballers.

A football match between Ghana’s Asante Kotoko and the 1992 Black Stars silver medal winning team was used to climax the occasion at the Accra Sports Stadium.

This initiative by the cooperate entity (Despite Group of Companies) has already served as learning ground for the Ghana Football Association who have decided to introduce an endowment fund for retired ex-National team players which takes effect in March this year.
