Security personnel stationed in Yendi in the Northern Region, have mounted road blocks and are searching all vehicles entering the municipality. The outgoing Northern Regional Minister and Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru, who disclosed this to The Ghanaian Times in an interview yesterday, said it was part of efforts to halt any imminent violence in the area. He said the security personnel had been given firm instructions not to allow anybody to smuggle any weapon into Yendi. �We will do everything possible to prevent any violence in the whole of Dagbon,� the minister stated. Alhaji Muniru said the REGSEC members had been holding series of meetings in order to put the necessary measures in place to ensure that peace prevailed in the area. He added that the security personnel deployed to Yendi and surrounding communities had been directed to deal mercilessly with anyone who would attempt to foment trouble in the area. The minister also revealed the National Security yesterday sent a team to visit Yendi to assess the situation there, adding that the team interacted with the members of both the REGSEC and Yendi Municipal Security Committee. Information available to the Times indicated the National Security also visited the old Gbewaa palace and inspected its current state. The minister reiterated his appeal to the leaders of both gates of the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute to restrain the youth from indulging in any acts of violence. He said it was about time the two factions returned to the negotiation table and assisted the Council of Eminent Chiefs to resolve the problem. A reliable source told The Ghanaian Times that both the Abudu and Andani factions have been holding series of meetings at both Yendi and Tamale to strategise on the next line of action.
