It is no news now that controversial musician, Diamond Appiah has joined the bandwagon of celebrities seeking the mandate of the electorate to become Members of Parliament at this year’s general elections.
Diamond who made her official announcement to run on the ticket of United Progressive Party (UPP) in the Trobu Constituency, Accra last Friday joins celebs such as actress Ebi Bright, Kwame Dzokoto, Salinko, Eric Don Arthur among others in the race to Parliament House.
In a chat with Showbiz, the Taste My Apple singer said contrary to what people are saying, money is not the reason why she is venturing into politics.
“My political ambition is inspired by God and not money. I am not coming into politics because of money, I am a self made woman.
Ghanaians should expect an honest, hardworking and a competent leader who will do her best as an advocate for the youth, women and children.”
Although Diamond acknowledged that her decision to contest the parliamentary seat might be a challenge, she was confident on winning.
“I am very optimistic that I stand a great chance to win because the sitting MP has failed the people of the Trobu Constituency. The MP has not done anything to improve the living conditions of the people in that constituency who gave him the mandate.”
“The people are crying for change and the NDC aspirant doesn’t stand a chance either because her party has failed Ghanaians so come November 7, I will head to Parliament”, she said.
On what happens to her music career and business since she now wants to be a Member of Parliament, Diamond said
“I was due to release the video of my new single Superman in December and promote it throughout this year with other singles, but because I am campaigning around the same time, my team advised I put the music work on hold since this is an election year and Iwill need alot of time and energy to go round campaigning.’’
Diamond urged Ghanaians to conduct themselves to ensure a peaceful and a free and fair election.
"I would like to advise everyone to vote wisely because your vote is your power. Our leaders must also ensure we have a free and fair election. The youth must stay away from violence so that we can have a peaceful election”, she said.
