The police officer who resigned from the Ghana Police Service to go into full time politics has justified why he has decided to dump the service to show his love for Nana Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, he took the decision based on his compassion for the poor and his quest to improve the living conditions of the marginalised.

According to Corporal Deanata Nicodemus, many people in his constituency in the Northern Region, particularly, his hometown, are in abject poverty, but he is disadvantaged in his capacity as a police officer to help his people.

“When I go to my hometown, I always weep; there is extreme poverty, they come to me for help but I am able to do little because I always tell them I am a police officer and cannot solve all their problems, so now I am going into politics to be able to support them.”

Corporal Nicodemus told the DAILY HERITAGE that many Ghanaians, especially, those from the northern part of the country are suffering: “People are suffering, go to my hometown now, many of my people are suffering; some of us are from poor homes and have people who are unable to pay their fees. If you complete school, no job, training school allowances scrapped, but I believe with Akufo-Addo, we can have a direction.”

He said he has resigned before the 2016 polls to campaign for and be part of the victory story of Mr. Akufo-Addo.

He tendered in his resignation letter to the Inspector General of Police late last year which has been approved. He is currently on a 42-day leave which will end on February 21, 2015.

Corporal Nicodemus hopes to go to parliament in 2020 and expects to serve his people in his capacity as a District Chief Executive when Mr Akufo-Addo wins the 2016 elections.

The Eastern regional vice chairman of the NPP, Alhaji Omar Bodinga, has described the decision of the law enforcer as “a bold step and a sign of victory for the flag bearer, Mr Akufo-Addo.”
