Last Lap To CPP CongressIts Samia Or CPP Is Gone!

Come Saturday, 30th January, this year, when between 2700 and 3000 delegates of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) converge at the Ghana International Trade Fair Center to elect its Presidential Candidate for the November general elections, the electoral college will be deciding whether to sell the Nkrumaist party to the highest bidder or vote for Samia Nkrumah to maintain the integrity of the once famous party.

The CPP obviously is bent on becoming the third political force in the country and have gone ahead to prove to Ghanaians that indeed, they are ready to wrestle power from the traditional power brokers in the country. All the big wigs in the party who took their chances, paid the hefty nomination fee will be sitting on tenterhooks awaiting the verdict of the delegates.

In spite of the competition provided the various aspirants, Samia Nkrumah, the daughter of the founder of the party stands tall.

A leading member of the CPP Lucy Anin believes that “Samia is the only true leader the CPP can boast of”. All the others, according to the senior citizen, are sycophants and hypocrites who have been bought and influenced by the two leading political parties and therefore should not be trusted with the fortunes and future of the party and the country.

According to Madam Anin, Dr, Michael Abu Sakara Foster’s resignation did not come as a shock to her and the rest of the loyal members of the party. “Paa Kwesi Nduom when he could not manipulate the party to his liking took his bow. Abu Sakara’s resignation was long expected and in fact, long overdue”.

“Have we stopped to wonder how all of a sudden, Dr. Abu Sakara has come into so much wealth and can now comfortably call himself a millionaire”?

Madam Anin is charging delegates to look beyond the wiles of the other candidates whom she referred to as sheep under wolves’ skin and vote for the one who has the interest of the country and the party at heart.

She told this paper in our office yesterday that if delegates make the mistake of voting for any other candidate than Samia, “then CPP members and Ghanaians should gird their loins for more years of hardship, neo-colonialism and mismanagement of our resources.”

A one-time parliamentarian in the Nkrumah government, Madam Anin decried the deplorable and pitiful state in which the various governments of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) had dumped the country.

She observed that after Nkrumah, all subsequent governments have only concerned themselves looting the country’s confers and enriching their pockets and have thrown the concerns of Ghanaians to the dogs, hence Nkrumah’s vision of Ghana growing into a prosperous and self-reliant independent nation capable of running its own affairs has been, sadly, “something we can only dream about”.

She has therefore called on Ghanaians home and in the Diaspora who are concerned about the continuous decline of the fortunes of Ghana and Africa and who believe in the vision Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s vision and the CPP to vote for Hon. Samia Yaba Nkrumah and the CPP to continue Dr. Nkrumah’s vision.

Another firebrand of the CPP, Ernesto Yeboah told this paper  via telephone that Samia is the only person who can take independent stance on issues that affects the economy as she did when the issue of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and other national issues.

“Her policy of nationalizing Ghana’s resources so that the current trend, where foreign countries have 97% of our national resources against our 3%, towers her above her other competitors. If you also look at our voting records, you will notice that the CPP’s votes keep dwindling over the years all because people who have led the party in the past were only interested in their stomachs and not the welfare of the country and party but, Samia will change that trend, in fact, she has already started and as expected, they are attacking her left, right and center”, no nonsense Ernesto Yeboah said.

The daughter of the first president of Ghana will be contending with Joe Agyepong, a private businessman, the immediate past General Secretary of the part, Ivor Kwabena Greenstreet and Private legal practitioner, Bright Akwetey.
