Help Pupils to Dream Big Minister

Dr. Joseph Annan, a Deputy Minister of Education, on Tuesday called on parents and teachers to encourage children to learn hard and aspired for greater laurels in life and academia. He said quality education provided the foundation for a better future, as he toured some selected schools in the Accra metropolis to mark My First Day in School. It marked the beginning of the 2009/2010 academic year for basic schools and interaction with teachers, pupils and parents to make first day of pupils in school memorable. The pupils were given exercise books, biscuits and caps with the inscription My First Day at School for free. It also afforded stakeholders an opportunity to identify problems militating against teaching and learning in schools especially in deprived areas. Dr. Annan accompanied by Mr. Fritz Baffour, MP for Ablekuma South, visited Chorkor Presbyterian Primary A and B School and Socco Cluster of Schools at Mamprobi. He urged the teachers to be committed, patient, dedicated and caring adding that government would ensure efficient monitoring and provision of logistics to enhance teaching and learning. Mr. Marcus Kobla Agbeyome, Headteacher of Chorkor Presbyterian Primary A and B School, appealed to government to build a classroom block for their Junior High School (JHS) and renovation of the existing classroom block built about 60 years ago. Mr. Maxwell MacOcloo, a teacher at Socco Cluster of Schools, said the roof of most of the buildings had been destroyed by some youth who used the schools football pitch.
