The mortal remains of the Very Reverend Emmanuel Peregrino – Brimah, former Head of Service at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), were interred at the Awudome Cemetery on Friday, January 29.
Very Rev Perigrino-Brimah, who died on Sunday, January 3, after a short illness, retired from the Methodist Church as a member of the Clergy in 2014.
He was born on Monday April, 23, 1944 in Accra. His parents were the late Mr Gariba Peregrino – Brimah and Madam Naa Lamiley Akoto Lamptey, Daughter of Sarah Moochoo Brown of Kpakpo Barimah We of Sempe, Accra.
He was the seventh born of eight siblings made up of five females and three males.
He started his education at the Methodist Primary School, Accra from 1950 – 1956 and completed at the St John’s Middle School in 1960, where he passed out successfully with distinction. He also attended the Scriba Commercial Institute where he successfully obtained a G.C.E ‘O’ Level Certificate.
Being very much interested in music he wrote and passed the relevant examinations at the Royal School of Arts in Music and was subsequently admitted to the School of Music and Drama of the University of Ghana, Legon, from 1964 – 1969, where he was awarded a degree in Music.
He was also sponsored by the Methodist Church to the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, where he was awarded a degree in Divinity.
Very Rev Peregrino – Brimah was appointed as Programmes Assistant at GBC on October, 15, 1970. He rose through the ranks to become Head of Service.
He was also one of the pioneers of GBC’s popular religions programme dubbed: “Hymns and Their Meaning,” which featured Ghana’s various Methodist Church choirs on Sunday morning.
Many people remember him for his introductory and closing baritone voice. He would also be in the memory of people for his profound love for classical music.
Very Rev Peregrino – Brimah featured prominently in some Obonu FM programmes. He was also a part- time Insurance representative at the State Insurance Corporation for many years.
He was baptised and confirmed into the Methodist Church. He worshipped regularly at the Rev Ernest Bruce Memorial Methodist Church, Adabraka where he was a local Preacher.
He was also a member of the Men’s Fellowship of the Church.
He was commissioned into the Ministry in 1997. Among the stations he served were: New Achimota Methodist Church, Rev Thomas Clegg Methodist Church, Kaneshie, Ebenezer Methodist Church, Dansoman, and Mount Zion Methodist Church, Korle – Gonno all in Accra.
He was survived by a wife and seven children. Philo, Aashia, Sherry, Sammy, Ebenezer, Yvonne and Phyllis.
