I Want To Be Like Etoo

New Latina signing Richmond Boakye-Yiadom is hoping to emulate the exploits of Cameroon legend and former Barcelona star Samuel Eto’o.

Having struggled to adapt to life at Dutch side Roda JC, the attacker last week joined the Italian Serie B side from parent club Atalanta for the rest of the 2015-16 season.

He made nine non-scoring league appearances for Roda and began his Latina adventure as a second-half substitute in a 1-0 win over Pro Vercelli on Saturday.

“Since my childhood, I’ve always wanted to express myself to the level of Eto’o,” Boakye told reporters.

“To become that player [he is] was not easy but I’m here [Latina] to do something that I’ve not done [before].

“I always want to win. That’s my goal. In life, if you want to be a winner, you always have to think positive.

“I’m happy to be at Latina. It’s a great satisfaction to be in this team and this society. I’m young and I have to learn many things. I am here to work and listen to the directives of the coach.”

Boakye earlier made 19 Serie A appearances for Atalanta in 2014-15, scoring three times.

He has also previously been on the books of Spanish outfit Elche as well as Italian sides Sassuolo and Genoa.

Eto’o, on the other hand, is a three-time Uefa Champions League winner, a Fifa Club World Cup hero, an Africa Cup of Nations champion and an Olympic Games gold medalist, having played for the likes of Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea, among others.
