Response: NPP Protests Against Removal Of Busia's Statue

PRESS RELEASE: CONCERNED FUTURE LEADERS OF BRONG AHAFO RESPONSE: NPP PROTESTS AGAINST REMOVAL OF BUSIAS STATUE We, the above mentioned group of the Brong Ahafo Region, would like to set the records straight on the misinformation that is currently peddling by the Busia Foundation and other group calling itself Brong Ahafo Patriotic Caucus (BHPC) of the NPP on almost all the media networks across this country with regards to Dr. Busias Statue which was erected on a park in Sunyani, formally named after Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah by Chiefs of our region as a symbolism and architect of the Region(B/A) from the then Western Ashanti(Ashanti Region). We want to state that, the Regional Coordinating Council intends to erect the busts (Statues) of seven prominent chiefs; Nana Akumfi Ameyaw III, Oseadeyo Dr. Agyeman Badu, Nana Bosea Gyinatwi, Nana Yaw Frimpong II, Nana Fosu-Gyeabour II, Nana Kwame Agyeman, Nana Kwasi Apraku I including Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who was instrumental in the creation of the Brong Ahafo Region on the said park as a symbol for celebrating BA@50. Fellow Ghanaians, lest we forget the history of this Region (B/A), we are aware that the decision by Dr. Nkrumah in dichotomizing the Bono and Ahafo from the then western Ashanti with the help of these above great chiefs of B/A did not go on well with some stakeholders of the Western Ashanti and even the grandsons of the Bono and Ahafo themselves including Dr. K.A. Busia were against and opposed to Dr. Nkrumahs decision openly. On the 4th April, 1959 Dr. Nkrumah declared Brong Ahafo as autonomous Region from the Western Ashanti (Ashanti Region) at a park which was named after him as Nkrumah memorial park by these Chiefs. As a matter of concerned, we thought it otherwise that how possible on earth could one have done such an abysmal thing that the past government did. Their act was tantamount to undermine the credibility of this Region (B/A) and a disrespect to our Traditional Chiefs by erecting Dr. K.A. Busias statue at the Nkrumah park which was already named and known to every Ghanaian long ago before the coming of the NPP in power in 2001, without consulting our Traditional leaders for such project. We classify their administration decision on such led by President Kufour as ideologically undemocratic, constitutionally illegitimate, morally un-manner and un-nature and above all Religiously it was unfaithful and ungrateful to the chiefs and children of this land (B/A) for them(NPP)to have executed such project. We want to state this without any contradiction that the RCC has a brighter future for Dr. Busias Status which according to genuine source, will be erected at the roundabout towards SSNIT flat old road in Sunayni and also named the ongoing Regional Library project which is very close to the roundabout when completed after him. What a gracious honour to the only great son of this Region(B/A), who was fortunate to have been the first Bono and Ahafos man to occupied the higher seat of this country as the only and second Prime minister of the second Republic. We are advising our friends from the Brong Ahafo Caucus of the NPP and its allies to desist from doing anything terrible to undermine the credibility of this Region and the RCC intends, as well as the celebration of the BA@50. We are calling on them to advise themselves on the writ that they filed against the RCC on this subject matter because they were ill-informed about the whole issue, else posterity would never forgive them if the busts(Statue) of Dr. Nkrumah and the seven other Chiefs are erected in front of Busias statue. Long Live Brong Ahafo! Long Live Dr. Nkrumah! Long Live the Freedom fighters! And Long Live Ghana!!! Organizer Dennis Yeboah Twumasi 0244674473/0244754299 [email protected]
