President Kufuor�s Former Chief Adviser Gets Top Appointment

Mrs Mary Chinery-Hesse, Former Chief Advisor to former President John Agyekum Kufuor has been appointed a member of the Board of the Centre for Conflict Resolution in Cape Town, South Africa. The Think Tank aims to contribute towards a just and sustainable peace in Africa by promoting constructive, creative and co-operative approaches to the resolution of conflict through training, policy development, research,and capacity-building. In the first ever comprehensive survey of 5,500 think tanks in 170 countries worldwide, conducted by the University of Pennsylvania's Think Tanks and Civil Societies Programme, the Centre was ranked the leading Thin Tank in Africa in 2008 and the only African Think Tank listed in the top 50 non-US Think Tanks globally. A statement issued in Accra on Wednesday by Mr Frank Agyekum Spokesperson at the Office of former President Kufuor said: �This honour comes on the heels of another appointment, along with several Nobel Laureates, to the Foundation Board of the prestigious Global Humanitarian Forum, Geneva, Switzerland.� It said Mrs Chinery-Hesse would bring to the Centre her wealth of experience both internationally and nationally to enrich its deliberations. She is the first African Woman to be appointed Resident Co-ordinator of the United Nations System and Resident Representative of UNDP. Mrs Chinery-Hesse is also the first woman to be appointed Deputy Director-General of the ILO in Geneva, and the first ever African woman to attain the rank of Under Secretary-General of the United Nations.
