Bulldozer Operator Remanded For Possessing Pistol

A bull dozer operator was on Wednesday put before an Accra Circuit Court for possessing a locally manufactured pistol loaded with three live cartridges.

Adu Kwame pleaded not guilty to possessing firearms without lawful excuse.

Whilst in the dock, Adu dramatically fell, drawing the sympathy of the audience in the Court.

His counsel, however, helped him up saying he was suffering from ulcer, while court officials offered him chair to sit on.

Defence counsel, therefore, prayed the Court to admit his client to bail as he had no criminal record whatsoever.

Counsel contended that his client used to work at various sites in the Nsawam and Asamankese areas and he found the weapon at one of those sites.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Isaac Agbemehia told the Court that the complainants in the matter are Police personnel of the Highway Patrol Team.

On February 5, this year, the complainants embarked on a routine checks on the Nsawam and Asamankese Road.

At about 1500hrs, prosecution said the complainants arrested Adu who was on board a taxi heading towards Asamankese.

Adu told the Police officers that he found the pistol at one of the sites and when he fired it he found the weapon to be effective hence decided to keep it.

The Court, however, refused to grant the accused bail and he is to reappear on the 24 of this month.
