No Show At Koala Robbers Trial

An Accra circuit court yesterday could not hear the case involving the three persons arrested in connection with the robbing of a staff of Koala Shopping Centre.

This was because according to the prosecutor, Chief Supt. Duuti Tuaruka, the investigator in the case could not bring the accused persons to court.

But George Asamaney, lawyer for the accused persons, said the case was one which had received wide media attention and that the prosecution must tell what was happening.

The trial judge, Aboagye Tandoh, consequently adjourned hearing until February 24, 2016.

The accused persons are Michael Edoe Ahiataku aka Old Soldier, a private security guard; Gilbert Osabutey aka Obolo, shop supervisor and Frederick Sedro Kwame aka Fred, a private security guard.

Two other accomplices – Stanley Obaliko aka Mohammed Sulemana and Okoe Quarcoe, unemployed, are currently on admission at the Police Hospital due to injuries they sustained when a taxi driver knocked them down with his vehicle during the robbery.

Two other members of the gang currently on the run, are wanted by the police.

At the previous sitting the court had dismissed an application for bail filed by Mr. Asamaney.

The judge held that he was not inclined to grant bail because the request was too early.

Three members of the purported seven-man robbery syndicate are alleged to have trailed and robbed one Lydia Horsu, a marketing administrator of Koala.

The gang is said to have at about 8am on January 9 this year, conspired and robbed the victim of her Nokia mobile phone worth GH¢800, a black ladies’ bag valued at GH¢200, a Koala ID card, invoices and GH¢100.

Sulemana is facing an additional charge of possessing one automatic MAB foreign pistol with number PA151674189, six live 9mm ammunition and five empty cartridges.

Sulemana and Okoe are also standing trial for intentionally and unlawfully causing grievous harm to Lydia.

The three have however, denied the charges and are currently on remand.
