Armed Forces Council Is Discussing Proposals For New Jets - Zita

The Minister for Information, Hon Zita Okaikoi has admitted that though the Armed Forces Security Council is considering a proposal for the purchase of four (4) C-27J Spartan Light Tactical Transports, to re-equip the military, Cabinet as not been formally notified. A US military purchasing website, www.defenseindustrydaily.com, yesterday quoted the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) as announcing Ghanas official request for four (4) C-27J Spartan Light Tactical Transports and other military communication equipment. Defenseindustrydaily.com, however, indicated that a DSCA request is not a contract. Speaking on Peacefms Kokrokoo, Hon Zita explained that, the proposals being discussed by the Airforce Council, have not been tabled before Cabinet. She added that till such a period when Cabinet receives the proposals, deliberates on it and sends it to Parliament for its assessment, it cannot be said that govt has bought or is in the process of acquiring new jets and rebuffed media reports on the subject. As Im speaking to you now, govt position is that, weve not committed at all to any such sale. Its the Airforce itself trying to re-equip their fleet who sent offers for proposals to military companiesCabinet has not received the proposals not to talk approving it, so where is this money that Daily Guide is quoting she asked.
