Highway Patrol Team Foils Armed Robbery in Volta Region

The Volta Regional Police Highway Patrol Team has foiled a highway robbery on a portion of the road between Akpafu-Mempeasem and Odomi in the Hohoe Municipality. The about 10-member armed robbery gang had barricaded that portion of road on Wednesday with logs and ordered the occupants of the about eight vehicles to lie face down and started to rob them of monies and mobile phones when the patrol team emerged. Mr Daniel Ablordey, the Hohoe Municipal Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency the patrol team received a distressed call and acted swiftly. He said unfortunately passengers, who were lying on the ground, stood up when the saw the police vehicle, thus making it difficult for the police to distinguish between passengers and robbers. Mr Ablordey said amidst the confusion the robbers fled into the bush leaving behind a shot gun, a live cartridge and a bag containing money. Mr Daniel Kojo Adiwo, the 53-year-old driver of one of the cars who attempted to make a U-turn on seeing the robbers, was shot in the lower jaw and is responding to treatment at the Hohoe Municipal Hospital.
