Feverish preparations await World Tourism Day celebrations in Ghana

A number African heads of states are expected in Ghana on September 21st this year to participate in the World Tourism Day celebrations. Ghana is hosting the international event in collaboration with the United Nations World Tourism Organization on the theme: �Tourism: Celebrating Diversity.� Some of the African countries that have confirmed their participation and arrival include Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and Sudan. Mrs Juliana Azumah-Mensah, Minister of Tourism announced this at a press event dubbed: �Matters Arising,� organized by the Ministry of Information to give the public government information as and when necessary. Ghana was selected at the 17th General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to host the event, the first African country to do so. As part of preparations towards the celebrations, the sector Ministry and its implementing agencies will organize an exhibition to showcase Ghana�s tourist attractions. Other events in connection with the celebrations are a gastronomy fair, musical concert, tour of Tetteh Quarshie�s cocoa farm, and what do you know competition among selected schools. The Minister said the event is expected to boost Ghana�s image with added worldwide publicity, and to reinforce Ghana�s position as a gateway to Africa. She urged the public to participate in the celebrations to make it a success.
