Essien Is Africa's Sixth Best

Ghana international Michael Essien has been named among the top 10 African scorers in the UEFA Champions League.

Essien was ranked sixth on the list after netting 11 goals in the European competition during his nine-year spell at Chelsea.

His goal against Barcelona in 2007 at the quarter finals stage was selected as one of the best goals in the UEFA Champions League.

Ex-Ivorian international and Chelsea legend Didier Drobga was ranked first with 44 goals followed by former Barcelona and Cameroonian ace Samuel Eto’o who was able to score 33.

Ivory Coast Seydou Doumbia, former World Footballer of the year George Weah and Togolese international Emmanuel Adebayor were ranked 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.

Other players who completed the top 10 were Rabah Madjer (Algeria), Yssouf Kone (Burkina Faso) ,Obafemi Martins (Nigeria) and Frederic Kanoute (Mali).
