Agencies Admonished To Involve Ministry in Planning of Estates

Agencies responsible for planning of estates and settlements have been reminded of the need to involve the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing, under which the Hydrological Services Department falls. This is to help ensure that houses are sited according to the drainage patterns of such areas. Mr. Wise Ametefe, Head of Drainage at the Hydrological Services Department, gave the advice today when officials of the department accompanied the Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Hannah Bissiw, to inspect ongoing emergency flood relief drainage works at Gbawe and Kasoa Iron City. Mr. Ametefe said the involvement of the Hydrological Services Department in the planning estates and settlements will save the country huge sums of money that goes into payments of compensation for the demolishing of legally constructed structures. The chairman of the Central Mechanics and Spare parts Dealers Association of Iron City, Mr. Kweku Obeng Mensah said the association is holding discussion with residents whose building will be affected by the construction of the drainage system.
