The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sanctioned the assistant coach of Ashanti Gold Sporting Club, Yakubu Mambo, and the club for their unsportmanlike conduct that brought this year’s Super Cup into disrepute.
The two breached some sections of article 35 of the GFA’s General Regulations when they boycotted the award ceremony after the match played on January 31.
A charge sheet signed by the GFA prosecutor, Raphael Tottimeh, and made available to the Daily Graphic, said assistant coach Mambo was charged with inciting, encouraging and directing the players and technical team of the club against the directive of the Match Commissioner in charge of the Super Cup to go for their medals from the dignatries.
The GFA further charged the Premier League champions with failing and refusing to make available the club’s coach and a player for the post- match press conference.
The statement described the behaviour of the assistant coach and the conduct of the club as unsporting that put the game into disrepute, saying it was in violation of the GFA regulations.
“Yakubu Mambo and the assistant coach of Ashanti Gold Sporting Club are hereby charged with breaching Articles 35(1)(b) and 35 (7) (d) of the GFA general regulation,” the charge stated, adding that Ashanti Gold had also been charged with breaching Articles (35)(2) and 35(7)(d) of the GFA’s general regulation in respect of the Super Cup match.
The statement, however, cautioned that “should the prosecution be successful of Mr Mambo’s breach of the GFA Statutes, regulations and the code of conduct, the prosecution shall pray the Disciplinary Committee for the imposition of the maximum sanctions.”
It also noted that the prosecution intended to rely on the evidence in the reports of the referee, the Match Commissioner as well as witnesses and the video of the match, pointing out that the defendants had by close of Friday to respond to the charges.
