Radio Station Closed Down

Snippets of information reaching the office of the New Crusading Guide as at press time yesterday indicated that a Tamale based private Radio Station North Star has been closed down by a team of policemen. In an interview with a very reliable source, who also witnessed all the movements of the police, as they marched all the workers outside, he hinted that after the Town Hall meeting yesterday in Tamale, other chiefs from the Gukpegu Regions took offence over why the Tamale chief was asked to sit together with the ministers at the conference as they were arranged to sit with the ordinary people. He continued, that immediately after the conference; of which North Star was invited, Gbedekpema, the chief of Tamale also organised a press conference to state his position with regard to why he had every right to sit and even dine with the Ministers. Also to what really compelled the police to close down the Radio Station, he said the other chiefs from the Gukpegu Regions wanted the Radio Station to play their voice on air as but the Radio Station indicated it was against their editorial policy. So this morning they played Gbedekpemas voice on air, and in the evening around 5.30 to 5.40, the Regional Police Commander ordered his men with three vehicles to lay ambush on the FM Station. The workers were ordered to move away from the working premises and they started closing the doors and the windows. He further disclosed that most of the workers were arrested and detained for several hours before they were released. The source quizzed why the Regional Police officer gave such a command, and further called on the IGP to probe into the matter. As at the time of filing this story, a new twist to the case indicated that the Radio Station has now been re-opened and was working effectively.
