Money Is Our Problem Akwetey-Kanyi

Film director and producer, Ashangbor Akwetey Kanyi, has attributed the many problems facing the movie industry to finance. Speaking at the previewing session of his latest movie Sacred Beads in Accra last Friday, he said For a good movie, there should be a lot of money involved in getting the best of everything like quality pictures, sounds, good costume, make-up, among others. He pleaded with the financial institutions such as the banks and the government to come and support them financially to help boost the image of the industry. We are hoping there will be banks who can actually grant us loans to shoot movies to enable us to sell our culture and country to the rest of the world who will in turn come into the country either as tourists or investors, to also contribute to the growth of our economy, he remarked. Sacred Beads is a story set in the village of Osonodompe , where the Princess, Nyamekye is expected to marry any royal who dares to enter into the dark forest of death to bring the sacred beads belonging to the King who lost it after raping and killing an innocent woman. While the story rages, two princes from Akumakrom and Makyi, who are both interested in marrying the princess decide to join forces to break the relationship between Princess Nyamekye and Nyamedea, a commoner whom she falls in love with. Who will she get to marry as the two princes and the commoner go into the forest in search of the beads? The cast of Sacred Beads includes Samuel Nii Odoi Mensah, Vivian Jill Lawrence, Solomon Sampah Danny Adeleye, Clement Bonny Ampomfi and Emmanuel Armah. Its set to be premiered at the Silverbird on a date yet to be announced.
