Vodafone rubbish claims to take over as sponsor for Ghana Premier League

Vodafone Ghana has denied reports indicating the firm was planning to take over as headline sponsor of the Ghana Premier League.

Reports were rife in the media that the Telecommunication network was preparing to step in as the new title sponsor for the domestic top-flight following Capital Bank’s decision to abrogate their deal with the Ghana Football Association.

The 2015/16 Ghana Premier League is currently ongoing with a sponsor which has raised massive consents from the participating Clubs.

Corporate Affairs Manager of Vodafone Ghana, Ebenezer Amankwah in an interview with Class Fm’s Desmond Kofi Decker refuted such reports indicating his outfit has not considered the said assertion from the football public.

“There has not been any decision whatsoever to get involved in the Ghana Premier League as we speak. Vodafone has not taken any decision; if we had, we would have communicated it to the public a long time ago.

“Vodafone has not had any contact with the Ghana Football Association. You should treat the stories online as unfounded,” he said.

“There is no indication that we are going to sponsor the Premier League or even considering it. He who is alleging has to prove,” he added.

It could be recalled that Vodafone Ghana were reported to be planning to sponsor the Ghana Premier League two seasons ago prior to First Capital plus Banks deal with the Ghana Football Association, a report which was similarly denied by the firm.
