I Will Never Present Myself As Being The 'Smartest Economist' Dr. Bawumia

A section of Ghanaians have labeled him as Ghana’s ‘Smartest Economist’ for his rich contributions to fiscal matters in the country as well as holding the position as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank.

President J.A. Kufuor appointed him as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana in June 2006.

But brilliant as he might be, the NPP’s 2016 running mate to Nana Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has refused to accept the accolade accorded him as the ‘smartest economist’ by a section of Ghanaians.

In an interview with Accra Based Joy FM, Wednesday – the renowned economist noted that, Ghana is blessed with great economists aside him even though he has been known for keeping government on its toes on matters relating to the handling of the economy.

“There are many more economists out there. That’s why people research all the time, the more you research the less you realise you know. You have to keep researching. It’s a learning process that we all do,” he said.

Adding that - “I will never present myself as being the smartest economist.”

He was speaking on issues about the economy raised in the NPP's "Real State of The Nation Address" delivered by the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday and the NDC's attempt to rebuff it.
