MP For Bekwai Joe Wise Hot!

Member of Parliament (MP) for Bekwai, Hon. Joe Osei-Owusu, has accused the First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, of acquiring a piece of plot at the premises of the Flagstaff House, the seat of government, and building a warehouse on it to store equipment for her non-governmental organisation (NGO).

“Though the laws of the nation do not allow the building of any property of such kind on the land, the wife of President John Mahama has done so without the approval of Parliament,” he reiterated.

Hon. Osei-Owusu, who is also a member of the Finance Committee, made the allegation on the floor of Parliament while contributing to the debate on the president’s state of the nation address.

When he was asked by the First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ebo Barton-Odro, to provide evidence to his claim, he could not provide any.

Hence he was ordered to withdraw the accusation but he refused.

Meanwhile, the Office of the President has denied that the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, owns and operates a warehouse constructed at the seat of government, the Flagstaff House.

In a statement released by the Presidency on Wednesday, it said there was no such private warehouse owned and operated at the seat of government by the First Lady.

It further explained that there was only a storehouse for the use of the Office of the President which was constructed by the state.

The statement described the MP’s claim as “mischievous” and said “There cannot be, and there has not been any private construction within the Presidential Household. What is referred to as a warehouse is actually a storehouse for the use of the Office of the President, and constructed by the State.”
