Farmer Hacks Wife To Death

FREDRICK Yaw Nketia, a 31-year-old farmer, is currently in the grips of the Suhum police assisting in investigation for allegedly hacking his wife to death for denying him sex. He purportedly attempted to commit suicide after the reported murder.

The body of Afia Gyebiwaah, 27, had been deposited at the Police Hospital in Accra awaiting postmortem, while the suspect is in police custody and also receiving treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital for an injury he sustained during the purported criminal act.

The incident happened at Sra, a farming village near Suhum in the Eastern Region on 17th February, 2016 at 8:30 pm, when the farmer and the deceased wife were going to Asarekra.

Supt. Yahaya Muchiraru, Suhum Municipal Police Commander, who confirmed the incident toDAILY GUIDE, said his outfit gathered that Yaw Nketia and his late wife had four children, who live at Niifio, in the Suhum municipality.

According to Supt. Yahaya, Afia Gyebiwaah and her husband had been quarrelling for a long period of time, over the non-performance of the customary rites and the fact that he had not wedded the lady.

In view of this, the police officer said Afia Gyebiwaah did not accord the husband the needed respect and reportedly insulted him whenever he asked the wife to cook for him or demanded sexual intercourse.

Supt. Yahaya Muchiraru hinted that the man reported the matter to the late wife’s family, but the woman failed to show up at the family meeting for a resolution of the matter.

The police officer said further that on 17th February, Yaw Nketia asked the woman to accompany him to the village where they farm.

He said the alleged murder occurred on the way.
