Some activists of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) in the North Tongu district of the Volta region have called for the removal of the District Chief Executive, Madam Delpha Fafa Agbayi for non-performance and gross insubordination towards chiefs and party members in the district.

At a press conference on Wednesday, the group led by the North Tongu constituency organiser, Mr. Dominic Adoboe aka Osama claimed that the DCE had broken the rapport between the party and chiefs and elders of in the district and therefore creating a disaffection for the party.

Mr Adoboe said the DCE had turned her official residence into a bakery and ‘personally providing catering services to all assembly programmes by selling yogurt, meat pie, cake, plantain chips to the detriment of her official work’.He stated that apart from her insolent behaviour, Madam Agbayi had poorly implemented most government policies including the Leap programme, school feeding and support for the disabled person to the disadvantage of people of North Tongu.

The constituency organiser said they have on several occasions called her to order but she had refused to change.

He said they were by the press conference calling on the President to remove her from post to save the party in the district.

The group threatened to boycott all party activities and programmes by the NDC including the upcoming limited biometric registration exercise, lock the two party offices of Battor and Juapong, and organise series of demonstration until her exit from office if their call was not heeded to.

‘We can’t afford to lose the status of North Tongu in an election as World Bank. Her continuous stay in office is a disaster to our party since the role of DCE is very vital in the administration of the district and mobilisation of support for our great party’, Mr. Adoboe stated.

DCE's response

Meanwhile Madam Agbayi has denied the allegations made against her describing it as a ploy by the constituency organiser to make unnecessary demands from the assembly for his parochial interest.

The DCE, who described her relationship with chiefs and elders in the district as cordial, dismissed claims that she was not performing arguing that her achievement in the district in terms of development was unprecedented.

Madam Agbayi challenged the group to do a comparison of the projects that had been undertaken during her tenure and that of her predecessors.

She mentioned that there was no single community within the district that had not been connected to the national grid and without street lights.

Several schools, health centres and water facilities she said had been provided for most communities while other projects were on-going.

She also denied converting her residency into a bakery explaining that she was a caterer by profession with first degree in home economics and therefore did bakery as part time job.
