Ho residents were thrown into a deep state of shock when news of the stabbing of a 19-year-old went viral last Tuesday.
Although the incident happened on the Independence Day, the news went out on Tuesday. It has left many mourning and wondering.
The boy met his untimely death after he was stabbed by a 15-year-old, Reuben Dufe, popularly known as ‘Article’, during an altercation between some teenagers in Ho, the Volta regional capital.
The incident is said to have occurred around the Ho sports stadium at about 5:00pm, when the victim, Wisdom Afful Amu, was returning from the 59th Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee Park.
According to an uncle of the deceased, Dr Winfred Naccortsey, his nephew, who is a tailor apprentice, was stabbed on the left breast by one of the four young men. The young men were said to have accosted him, thereby resulting in a scuffle.
He further added that some persons standing by who saw the incident rushed in to intervene. They then found Amu unconscious with a wound beneath his breast.
They then rushed him to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead and the incident has since been reported at the Ho Central Police Station.
The Volta Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Seidu Adamu, who confirmed the incident, noted that three suspects were earlier arrested but were all released after the actual culprit, Reuben, was arrested. He is therefore assisting the police in investigations.
The Municipal Crime Officer, ASP Appeatu Afrikyi, explained that the police are still looking for one other suspect who is believed to be an accomplice in the crime.
He said the suspect who is currently at large, only identified as Bright, is believed to have led a group involving Reuben in an attack on another group led by one Kplorla.
He expressed gratitude to the bystanders who conveyed Wisdom to the hospital and also took the initiative to arrest some suspects and handed them over to the police.
Their act, he said, helped in arresting the current suspect, Reuben, who is cooperating with the police.
The body of the deceased is currently at the morgue for autopsy.
