NDC Foot Soldiers Take Over YEA Recruitment

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE has revealed that the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has been hijacked by some senior members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Karaga District of the Northern Region.

YEA was established under the Youth Employment Act 2015 (Act 887) to empower young people to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic and sustainable development of the nation,

It is alleged that the Northern Regional Director of the agency, Rashid Tanko (Computer), issued a letter addressed to the District Chief Executive for Karaga introducing one Abdul-Rahaman Mohammed Saani who it is believed, was brought there to act as the Karaga District Director of the agency when actually the district already has a director.

DAILY GUIDE checks from the office of the YEA revealed that the district has a board – including the DCE, District Police Commander and the District Director (of YEA) – who are in-charge of the selection and screening of applicants for the Community Police Assistants (CPA) module; and so some workers were surprised to hear that someone had been brought to the district to play that role.

Strangely, Abdul-Rahaman Mohammed Saani, who is alleged to be acting as the YEA Director, is the secretary of the National Democratic Congress in the Karaga constituency.

The district director requested that Abdul-Rahaman should go back to the regional office of the YEA and bring an appointment letter that would show that he was coming to take over from him (district director) because it was shocking, under normal circumstances, there should even be a hand-over ceremony to that effect with some dignitaries present.

Abdul-Rahaman Mohammed ended up using superior powers from the regional level to act as the district director of YEA thereby overshadowing the current district director in the Karaga district.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, Mr Rashid Tanko stated that “it’s not true that my office has appointed anybody in Karaga as the district director of YEA.”

He indicated that Abdul-Rahaman Mohammed was only sent to Karaga to assist in the recruitment under the Community Police Assistants (CPA) module because there was no officer for that process.

“The officer we have in Karaga is known as the data entry officer and he is not qualified per our standings, to do that kind of exercise and so that was the reason why we sent Abdul-Rahaman there and after the exercise that ends it,” explained Rashid Tanko.
