Dont Divorce Or Abandon Breast Cancer Wives - Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai Advises

The President of Breast Care International and Chief Executive Officer of Peace and Love Hospital, Dr. (Mrs) Beatrice Wiafe Addai has advised husbands not to abandon and divorce their wives when afflicted with breast cancer.

She however cautioned that “every woman is pre-disposed to the condition and needs love and care if afflicted rather than the inhumane acts they are subjected to by husbands and some extended family members at the time they needed their support and comfort most.”

The celebrated breast cancer surgeon was one of the two special guests of honor at this year’s Annual Benefit Ball organized by the Accra Friendship Club (AFC) at the weekend on the theme, “Breast and Prostate Cancer Awareness.”

According to the organizers of the event, Breast Care International was contacted because it is the lead campaigner against the spread of the disease, focuses on awareness creation and encourages women to report cases on time as early detection is key to prevention.

The co-guest of honor, Dr. De-Gaulle Moses Dogbatey, President of Medi-Moses Prostate Cancer also associated himself with the prevalence of cancers, agreeing that men equally should undergo routine prostate check-ups for early treatment.

Meanwhile, Mr. Paa Gyima Gyamfi, Chairman of AFC explained Breast and Prostate cancers were chosen, given their prevalence and the urgent need to disabuse the minds of the public against some misconceptions held about the diseases.

He again said AFC in its bid to significantly create awareness on the two diseases, will carry out a free breast screening program at Bishop Charles Agyin-Asare’s Perez Dome in Dzorwulu, Accra in April this year for the benefit of the community, urging the public to patronize the program when the date is announced.

He apparently promised to institutionalize the free breast and prostate cancer screening as part of AFC’s annual benefit balls; thus the annual benefit ball is held to spread love, restore hope and forge social cohesion as a charity club mobilizes support to carry out its philanthropic program countrywide.

He indicated that Accra Friendship Club in each year focuses on an issue with a national character and draws on the experience of experts and professionals for solutions for the common good.
