NPP Calls For Ceasefire In Klottey-Korle

The Klottey-Korle Constituency Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for a ceasefire among supporters of Philip Addison and Nii Noi Nortey.

Supporters of both men have been festering tensions following Nii Noi Nortey’s decision to contest in the parliamentary elections as an independent candidate after his defeat in the contentious primary re-run.

The defeated NPP parliamentary aspirant, Nii Noi Nortey, announced his decision to contest the November Parliamentary elections as an independent candidate last week. He accused the party leadership of thwarting his efforts to represent the NPP in 2016 general elections.

Many political commentators are predicting that his move will hamper the NPP’s chances of winning the seat back from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) if efforts are not made to rope him back into the party. The Constituency Vice Chairman, Alhaji Aliu Gabo, who fears the disagreements might negatively affect the NPP, made a passionate appeal to both camps to cease fire.

“As a constituency officer, I believe that there must be tolerance and I must accommodate everybody’s dissenting views. I must accommodate them on board so that we can make it. Remember the parliamentarian is going to be the parliamentarian for the whole constituency.”

He further urged both parties to bury the hatched and work towards party unity. “I beg of them, they should not rekindle the old fire. Please let sleeping dogs lie. Let us be seen as agents of unity, agents of reconciliation.”
