Mr. Prince Yeboah Marfo, the Principal of Berekum College of Education, at the weekend called for the speedy release of students feeding grants to help feed students, as non-payment of school fees is posing some challenges in the running of the school.

He said the immediate release of the grant would be a welcome relief as parents and guardians struggling to settle their wards school fees are allowed some time and space to do that.

Mr Marfo said the College’s feeding grants for the second semester of last academic year and the first semester of this academic year had not been paid and this had created an unpleasant situation adversely affecting the running of the College.

Addressing the seventh congregation of the College at Berekum, the Principal appealed to the government to consider a special allowance package for level 300 students to cover rent payment, teaching and learning materials.

The Principal of the College also appealed to the government to consider absorbing examination fees of students as it used to be the case when students were not taking the professional allowances.

Diplomas were presented to 491 graduates of the 2014/2015 academic year at the ceremony held under the theme “Transforming Teaching and Learning Towards Achieving Quality Education”.

Mr. Marfo noted with joy the appreciable improvement in examination results of the College, indicating that the number of students who obtained pass and third class divisions were reducing significantly.

He attributed this partly to commitment, cooperation, dedication and hard work of members of staff.

He told the graduands that the education they had received at the College would be incomplete if they ignored the moral and spiritual components of their training.

In a speech read for him, Daasebre Dr Amankona Diawuoh II, the Paramount Chief of Berekum said the College needed infrastructure development boost academic work and status as a tertiary institution.

He urged past students to play their part as the government continued to focus on the development and upgrading of the College.

Daasebre Dr Diawuoh observed that the professional development of the teacher was important at the basic level which provided the foundation for the child.

This, he explained was why the teacher needed to be trained in both content and methodology to enable him or her to communicate effectively.
