Nothing Absolutely Wrong With Smarttys Involvement In Electrification Project - Dep Minister

John Jinapor, Deputy Minister for the Power Ministry, says there is absolutely nothing wrong with Smarttys allegedly overpriced electrification project.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', the Deputy Power Minister was overwhelmed by media reports that the contract was overpriced by $9million.

Ghanaian firm, Smarttys Management and Production Limited, which came under pressure for overpricing the branding of about 116 Metro Mass Transit Buses, is reportedly caught up in another $92million National Electrification project.

Hon. John Jinapor debunked the claims, stressing that the company contracted for the project is China Hunan Construction Engineering Group.

He explained that Smarttys name is at the center of the issue because the engineering company chose the firm as their Public Relations representative.

Smarttys was only to play the role of Public Relations Manager and not the contractor of the deal, he noted.

To him, there is absolutely no issue with Smarttys doing a PR job for China Hunan construction engineering group.

He further dismissed reports linking the deal to Smarttys involvement in the bus branding.

“The China construction indicated that they engaged them as the PR rep. They are not the prime contractor. They’re doing a PR work for them . . . The company has their company in Ghana which is the Hunan construction company Ghana Limited and who are their agents in Ghana. They represent them . . . There is absolutely no issue about it [absolutely no issue] . . . We provided everything. It is not true that the contract was bloated.”
