Police Hunt For Visa Fraudster

The police have mounted a hunt for a 50-year-old woman, who allegedly defrauded 60 people of $204,690.00.

Lilian Oye is reported to have impersonated a staff of the United States Embassy (name withheld) in Accra and collected the money to help the victims acquire visas to travel.

The woman recruited agents who collected money from victims and absconded.

The victims are youth who have completed tertiary institutions and other businessmen, some of whom sold family properties or borrowed money for the transaction.

A source at the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) disclosed this to TheGhanaian Times in Accra yesterday and said the victims were from Kumasi, Koforidua, Tema, Kasoa and Accra, among others.

The source stated that Oye collected the money since last year.

According to the source, after paying the money, the victims waited for some time, but did not have any positive results and later reported the matter to the police.

The source urged the public to provide valuable information to the police for the arrest of the suspect.
