Spraying Gangs Accused Of Politicising The Exercise

Cocoa farmers in Asunafo North Municipality have alleged that the mass cocoa spraying gangs have politicized the exercise and have refused to attend to farms of perceived NPP supporters. They alleged that the sprayers took the stance after the old gangs were dismissed by the NDC government. Nana Barimah Yaw Soadwa, Chief farmer, and Mr Albert Takyi, assemblyman for the area told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, they had received complaints about the development from other farmers at Dominase, Fianko and Aworokrom. The two men also alleged that some cocoa farms had not been sprayed in the three rounds that the gangs had covered so far. After the old gangs and the committee taking care of the chemical were dissolved, the new ones quickly took over items meant for the spraying, they said. Nana Soadwa, a former national best cocoa farmer, appealed to the government to appoint a committee to manage the chemicals to ensure that they were used for the intended purposes. He called on the government to institute a team to monitor the exercise towards achieving the objectives of the spraying exercise.
