Election 2016: We Wont Allow Any Hired Madman To Disturb Us- Wontumi

The bizarre circumstance under which the late former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu died has stimulated the security consciousness in most Ghanaians as majority try as much to be safe from unforeseen dangers.

An Accra Central District Court dismissed an application to refer Daniel Asiedu, the 19- year-old man accused of murdering the MP for psychiatric examination on basis that his demeanor did not depict someone who was mentally challenged.

Prior to the dismissal, lawyer for the alleged killer, Augustine Obuor pleaded with the court for his client to be referred to the mental hospital.

It is on this note that the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako has warned all Ghanaians especially members of the NPP to be weary of “sane men” who could deliberately pose as “madmen” to harm them as they support the party in this years’ elections.

He alleged that the NPP’s main political rivals could deliberately flood the Ashanti Region with “mad men” to foment trouble for executives of the NPP especially the vocal ones as they participate in this years’ election.

“The NDC can do anything for power. Even if it means sending men into the world bank of the NPP to pose as madmen, they would do that. But we are prepared for them; I would want to urge all members of my party to be on their guard all day.”

“JB death has been an eye opener. You can’t trust human beings. Politicians can hire some to harm and in the end, they can support them in court to say they are not sane. They can go to the extent of back dating records in the mental homes just to make things look as if the person who committed the crime is indeed mad”, he advised.

Ghana’s former President, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, also called for the strict application of the capital punishment law to stem the spate of callous killings in the country when the family of Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, paid him a visit on Wednesday.

He said Ghana should not be witnessing the spate of killings with impunity, when the constitution exacts the severest punishment possible.

Flt Lt Rawlings invited Parliament to consider the need to amend the constitution so Regional Security Councils will have the power to approve the execution of convicts’ sentenced under capital punishment.

“Because we have refused to exact the ultimate punishment, the police will arrest, the courts will sentence but the situation [spate of murders] will continue to rise.”
