About 500 pupil teachers in the Kadjebi District of the Volta Region employed by the government have not received salaries for four years of service; a situation that has left them agitated.

According to the teachers , they were recruited by the Unit of Education in the district in 2012 as pupil teachers with an assurance in their appointment letter to be upgraded after six months of their first salary.

However, for these teachers, that remains a broken promise, as efforts to get salaries for the past four years have been futile without knowing when they will get their first pay plus the four-year arrears.

Leader of the group, Saibu Laminu, said on Ghana Dadwen on Onua 95.1FM that they have not complained all these years because of the constant assurance from the education directorate in the district.

He told host of the show, Bright Kwasi Asempa: “When they recruited us in September 2012, they stated clearly that our salary will come in six months time. But for four years now , nothing has come”.

Mr. Laminu said although they have staff identification and have filled all the necessary documentations, they are yet to be paid their salaries.

“We go to the education office and they keep promising us, we want government to come out clearly and say something about our situation. We have filled all the necessary documents that will be sent to the Controller’s office. We have all the staff identification forms that will facilitate the process for our salary but still," he added.

Another teacher, Feix Kingsley Asiamah also told Onua News that “ we have not come out all this while because we had so much hope in the district directorates. When we filled our acceptance letter , they assured us of getting paid and even till date the HR personnel at the district office, Mr Tetteh and the Coordinator , Mr Agbenu Bright have always given us hope".

He said the situation has affected them gravely over the years, adding "it is too much for us”.

Headmistress at the Kajebi Central EP JHS, Ms Gifty Obeng confirmed the issue and noted two of his staff are among the affected pupil teachers.

She said: “Two of my staff have not been paid . They were assured that they will get their salary but four years now, they have not been paid. Even though some meetings have been held by authorities over this issue, they have not provided them with the actual time to release their salary”.
