There Will Be Zero Import Duties On Raw Materials

The Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has stated that, an NPP government under Nana Addo Dankwa Addo Akufo Addo, would implement a zero percent import duties on raw materials and equipment to help increase production in Ghana.

He noted that the Special Import levy introduced by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would also be cancelled.

Speaking at the Inauguration of executives of Coalition to Elect Nana Addo and Bawumia (CENAB) in Tema on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia said NPP has realized that Import taxes and other charges at the ports were  killing businesses, hence the need to change the tax regime if voted into power.

According to him, NPP would put in place a job creating economy as well as manage Ghana’s finances and resources to the benefit of its citizens.

He said they would create the most business friendly and people friendly economy in Africa with a fixation on production and not increasing of taxes.

“After production becomes the focus, Income tax would come from job creation, and also corporate taxes from the profits that businesses would make. So Ghana would enjoy more taxes from and not increasing it like it is now”, Dr. Bawumia cataloged.

Describing NPP as serious Managers, the vice Presidential Candidate added that the focus of Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia governance would be on job creation, an example of which was seen under President John Agyekum Kufuor from 2001 to 2008.

With only GH ¢20 Billion, he said, the NPP was able to establish the National Health Insurance Scheme, National Youth Employment, School Feeding programme, Free Maternal Care, Capitation Grant, Metro Mass Transit, LEAP programme and massive infrastructure.

“Yet with over GH¢ 200 Billion spent by this NDC government in 8 years, all Ghanaians have seen is suffering, the collapse of most of the interventions brought by the NPP and withdrawal of Nursing and Teacher Training Allowances”, he stated.

Given that the withdrawal of training allowances has brought hardship among most of the trainees, Dr. Bawumia assured them that NPP would restore training allowances.

According to him that would be the easiest promise to fulfill since that forms only 0.1 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He further assured Ghanaians that NPP would not dip its hands into the coffers of the country, therefore there would be much money to build Ghana to attain the level of a developed country.

Dr. Bawumia therefore urged Ghanaians to oust the NDC government from power and elect a competent leader like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo as the next Ghana’s President.

He also charged the executives of CENAB to work without complacency to drum home the need to cause a change government and see many of the NPP parliamentary Candidates retaining and gaining more seats.
