Hiplife Artiste Fight Chiefs

A young hiplife artiste, Frank Abeiku Andoh aka Dadie, whose previous controversial album created tension among the youth and chiefs in Agona Swedru and Konyarko, has been invited to appear before the chiefs and people of Winneba to explain the rationale behind a song on his current album which sought to undermine the progress of the people. In the said song, the artiste made certain derogatory remarks about the town, a situation which has incurred the wrath of citizens who want the song banned. We gathered that the chiefs claimed that in one of the songs on the album, Dadei made certain derogatory remarks about the citizens of Winneba which has generated mixed feelings. The chiefs however warned that if no solution is found to the mockery and humiliation brought to the people of the town by the hiplife artiste, and if he failed to appear before them; then they would advise themselves accordingly. But in an interview with Dadie yesterday, he claimed he had not received any complaint or an invitation letter from the chiefs or any group of persons to appear at a meeting, adding that, Although I heard on radio a couple of days ago, I have not received any document from them. Reacting to the threat by the chiefs, Dadei told BEATWAVES that he is only an entertainer who does songs to educate and entertain music fans, saying he did not intend to use his songs to defame anybody or group of people. Last year his song Swedru created tension among the youth in Agona Swedru and Konyarko, who threatened to deal with him. The youth of the two towns claimed that in the song, the artiste said Konyarko citizens refused an offer from the then government to develop the town; rather, they requested that the government assist the town with signboards instead. This did not sit well with the people who vowed to teach the artiste a bitter lesson. They disclosed that it was Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who provided the town with signboards and not Rawlings as alleged by the artiste. In the song, Dadei also condemned the citizens of Agona Swedru for their failure to develop their livelihood.
