AFCON 2017 Qualifier: Ghana 3 - 1 Mozambique - Stars' Beat Os Mambas To Top Group H

The Black Stars have beaten their Mozambique counterparts in their third Group H match in the ongoing AFCON 2017 qualifiers at the Ohene Djan sports stadium in Accra.

Goals from in-form Anderlecht winger Frank Acheampong in the 4th minute, captain of the day John Boye in the 56th minute and Aston Villa's Jordan Ayew in the 58th minute sealed the game for Avram Grant's lads.

The Stars' produced an uninspired display to dispatch Mozambique 3-1 and inch closer to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations with a performance which begs for several questions.

Frank Acheampong gave the Black Stars an early lead to signify the start of baptism of fire.

But a lackluster display from the team dominated their play in the first half.

The four-time African champions resumed with second half revitalized and defender John Boye put his team 2-0.

The persistence from the Turkish-based defender paid off as Zainadine Junior’s clearance ricochet off Boye’s head for the second – his fourth international goal.

Moments later, Aston Villa striker Jordan Ayew chipped the ball past  Jose Guirrugo for his side’s third goal - his 11th of his international career.

But the visitors responded after substitute Apson Manjate rose high to nod home the consolation.

Ghana are currently sitting on top of group H of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, having won their first 2 games, beating Mauritius and Rwanda 7-1 and 1-0, respectively.

They are now with 9 points on top of the group after conceding only 2 goals and scoring an impressive 11 goals in three matches.

The return leg will be three days later in Maputo on the 27th of March.
