Free Condoms To Flow In Tema This Year

Government’s continued fight against the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and related disease, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), is to be intensified at the Tema battle front of the war, this year.

Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tema, Isaac Ashai Odamtten, has announced that as part of this year’s battle strategy, the Tema Metropolitan Assembly will help the distribution of free condoms.

“There will be the free distribution of both male and female condoms,” Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten said in an address to Assembly members yesterday.

Calling it a “specific intervention,” he said the distribution will be one of many strategic actions that the Assembly will take in this year’s battle against the dreaded disease.

It is not clear if the free condom distribution will entail the provision of the contraceptive freely to every inhabitant of Tema.

According to the MCE, however, other actions in the strategy will include the continuation of ongoing free Testing and Counselling Services, the holding of quarterly review meetings on HIV and the increase in education and sensitization on HIV by helping to organize the 2016 world AIDS Day Celebration.

The Tema MCE also said the Assembly will help provide I.C. and T materials and testing, including breast screening, Body Mass Index and Malaria Testing.

Hon. Odamtten had made the promise at the first ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the TMA yesterday.

In attendance were Assembly Members and other Government functionaries’ including current member of the Korle-bu Board and former MCE of Tema Kempes Ofosuware.

The meeting had been used by the MCE to account for his stewardship to the people.

Among others, Hon. Ashai Odamtten had accounted for his achievements in the area of security, education, public infrastructure and health.
