Atebubu NDC Members Are �Hooligans�� I�m A Victim Of Their Malicious Conduct - NEC Member
Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Lawson has emphatically stated that his party members at Atebubu-Amantin in the Brong Ahafo Region are �hooligans� and for years are noted for exhibiting destructive tendecies.
His comment comes after a violent clash in the town between some party executives in the area led to the burning of the party office last Tuesday � he described the incident as �unfortunate� and maintained that the party activists in Atebubu are �lawless� people.
Police in Atebubu have arrested two people in connection with Tuesday�s vandalism at the NDC�s office in Atebubu - several people have reportedly been injured following a scuffle between supporters of the Member of Parliament for the area, Sanja Nanja and the DCE, Sampson Owusu Boateng.
Reports says Owusu Boateng has been replaced as DCE by one Eric Osei. The subsequent tension has created unease in the district, especially for members of the Atebubu Traditional Council, some members of the NDC, as well as members of the Atebubu Youth Association.
However, speaking on the issue on NEAT FM�s morning show dubbed Ghana Montie, George Lawson, who is a member of the�National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling party, noted that the party is now fed-up with the �rebellious� attitude of the its members in the district.
�I have been a victim of their malicious conduct when I visited the place before the 2012 General Elections. They nearly vandalized my car. I have experienced at first hand this rebellious attitude in that constituency before. They are noted for that. There are some rowdy NDC members in that place we must punish. They must be brought to book. We can�t predict their next attack. They nearly lynched me so we don�t know who will be the next victim,� he recounted.
George Lawson however advised that � �If we don�t act on their behaviour, it will become a canker. They [Atebubu NDC members] could become untouchable members in that constituency. Those notorious people must be brought to book.�
