Parliamentary Candidate of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Domeabra-Obom in the Greater Accra Region, has reminded the supporters of the party that, there are no strangers in the NDC, as exist in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Madam Sophia Karen Akuoko, the NDC, is a party of equal opportunities, not a cabal of some egoistic individuals in the society, who think they bear more right than others.
“In the NDC everybody is equal, no group of individuals is superior to the other, and everybody bears the same right and responsibilities as the leaders of the party”, she stressed.
Sophia, who is also the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Service Secretariat (NSS), insisted that said the NDC unlike the NPP, all supporters irrespective of their religious, ethnic background, social standing are considered as one people in the body-politics of the country.
It will be recalled that, the Domeabra-Obom Constituency, became vacant when the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Anum Daud Yemo, expressed his desire not to seek re-election in the November 22, 2015, primary of the NDC.
Sophia, therefore contested the seat unopposed in the largely rural community where the people are mostly settlers who are into farming.
Reacting to the rumours making the rounds in the Constituency that she does not hail from the Constituency at a “Get Together” organized by the NDC Constituency executives as part of the Easter festivities in Accra, she said, it was only in the NPP that a group of people could be considered as strangers, hence the zeal to oust a whole NPP National Chairman, Paul Afoko, on a flimsy excuse that he (Afoko) does not want Nana Akufo-Addo to be President.
She insisted that, the governing NDC was like a grandmother who takes care of her grandchildren irrespective of who their fathers were.
In the NDC, where one is coming from does not matter, but the ability to work and ensure victory for the party and for that matter the President, John Dramani Mahama, she stressed.
The NDC runs an open door policy that groom people, irrespective of their religious or ethnic background, she said.
She said the NDC promised to connect majority of the area to the national grid and that was ongoing, so there is no need for any bickering against the government.
She took the opportunity to assure the chiefs and people of the area that, a Deputy Education Minister, has summoned the contractor working on the construction of the secondary school in the area; part of the 200 Day Secondary School embarked on by the president.
According to her, the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, has also been informed that the contractor working on the project, has abandoned site and steps are being taken to have the situation corrected. There area has no secondary school.
Sophia, noted that because the area has no secondary school, majority of the Basic Education Certificate graduates are compelled to sit at home after completing their basic school education. For this reason, steps are being taking to have the secondary completed in no time to keep the teeming youth of the area in school.
She appealed to them exercise restraint as the President Mahama rolls out his changing lives, transforming Ghana agenda on infrastructural development.
In attendance at the said meeting were the National Youth Organizer of the party, Alhaji Sidi Abubakar, his Deputy, James Kofi Fonu Kpatapka; the Presiding Member of the Ga South Municipal Assembly, Robert Ahordagbe.
Alhaji Sidi, reiterated the need to have a Police post mounted in the area to safeguard life and property.
Ahaji Sidi, who has been made a Development Chief in the Obom area, gave the assurance that he would take up the matter with the Minister of Interior to call the Inspector-General of Police, John Kudalor, to have a Police post mounted in the area, to ward off the activities of Landguards.
He urged the youth, to ensure victory for the NDC, because it would be suicidal to change the NDC for the NPP, led by its 72-year old politician. He appealed to party supporters to support the Parliamentary Candidate of the party and President Mahma in November 7, polls.
He made it clear that, the party does not support any independent candidate and that Madam Akuaku, is the only candidate known to the NDC.
