Konadu Wades Into S.A. 3 Saga . . . Says Arrest Was Needless

The Founder and Leader of the National Democratic Party(NDP) and Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, has  described the actions taking against the three ex - servicemen South African  as uncalled-for.

According to the former first lady, there was nothing unusual about a party seeking to improve its internal security.

The trio, who were brought in by the NPP to train its internal security personnel have been deported following an impasse between the party and the BNI over the propriety of their stay in the country. The BNI argued that their operations were unhealthy to the security of the state.

Speaking to StarrFMonline.com, Mrs. Rawlings who downplayed the issue said there are serious things the state must rather engage itself with.

According to her, the harassment by the ex- service men was not the most important thing, adding that “We have over 100 Chinese people in the country who are dissipating our forests and water and we are worried over three South Africans? I don’t think it’s the most important thing right now. There are killings going on and nobody is talking about it,”

“We shouldn’t create a mountain where there is a little anthill. There are many things going on in this country that are creating serious security threats to Ghanaians and nobody is saying anything about it. Our waters are being damaged by the Chinese and their cronies in government, there is mercury in our water and nobody cares; three South Africans and we are worried?

The three — Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis (retd), 54; Warrant Officer Denver Dwayhe, 33, and Captain Mlungiseli Jokani, 45 — were arrested at the EL-Capitano Hotel where they had been based since arriving in Ghana.

Commenting on Dr. Zanetor Rawlings ambition to contest the  Klottey Korle seat on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC), she indicated that she supports the parliamentary candidacy of her daughter Dr. Zanetor Rawlings but disapprove of her party, NDC.

“She is an adult woman, she is a medical doctor; she hasn’t lived here for some time so she doesn’t even know the nuances of the parties and so on but she has the right to decide which way she wants to go,” Mrs. Rawlings said.

She added: “I support her as an individual but I am not going to support that party (NDC). I support her as a daughter but not her party”.
