"Rethink Decision"...NPP's Boycott Of Its 'Own Stations' A 'Wrong Move'... NDC Lawyer

Basis on which the opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP] boycotted two programmes on two separate radio stations under the stables of the Despite Group of Companies is premised on the belief that they (radio stations) - “consistently discuss all matters of the NPP with a negative slant”.

That was according to a letter addressed to the parent company and a statement copied to the media subsequently.

But a legal team member of the governing National Democratic Congress [NDC], David Annan thinks otherwise.

To him, the two stations, OKAY FM and Neat FM which have been shunned by the NPP are rather ‘kind’ to the ‘Elephant’ family.

I think Peace FM, Okay FM and Neat FM are very cordial and sympathetic towards the NPP (in opposition). Theirs is not like what Joy FM and Citi FM did to the NDC some years back. Peace FM, Okay FM and Neat FM defend the NPP in so many ways but we [NDC] don’t even like such privileges from them” Lawyer Annan made this allegation in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show host Kwasi Aboagye on his Ghana Montie programme.

The NDC’s legal team member was reacting to the opposition party’s decision to boycott two political programs on OKAY FM and NEAT FM, hosted by Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie and Adakabre Frimpong Manso, who stand indicted of being on a "mission" to "destroy the NPP".

According to the NPP, several efforts to have Tikesie and Adakabre cease their "unethical practice of journalism," have been rebuffed.

Several letters, phone calls and face to face discussions between us and other management members, the producers and host of the programmes, to desist from this unethical practice of journalism have gone unheeded,”

But the stations’ management has assured that the issue will harmoniously be resolved.

It is our hope that you [NPP] review your decision to boycott Okay FM and Neat FM. Our doors are always widely opened to you as we all contribute our quota to develop our nation,” Management of the stations said in a rejoinder.

However, Lawyer Annan maintained that the perception out there is that “Peace FM, Okay FM and Neat FM” are NPP linked stations – he claimed the trio radio station are “NDC bias. When there’s issue they don’t call us to respond but we don’t care. It’s a shame to the stations and their presenters.

NPP boycotting their own stations [NEAT and OKAY FM] is a wrong approach; they must rethink their decision. It’s not going to help them,” he advised.
